The Department of Life Sciences was established in the academic year 2002-2003 with the objective of teaching biology to students and preparing scientific personnel in this field to supply governmental, private, and mixed sector institutions (medical, industrial, and laboratory institutions) with specialized and advanced professionals. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies, including master’s and doctoral programs.
The department’s structure comprises 32 faculty members with various scientific specializations and academic titles who contribute to teaching biology to its students as well as students from other departments and colleges. The department includes nine laboratories, one of which is dedicated to postgraduate/doctoral students, two for postgraduate/master’s students, and the rest serve as educational laboratories providing services in medical and analytical fields for scientific and research personnel, as well as students.
Biology is one of the branches of modern natural sciences and human knowledge domains. It serves as a fundamental basis for all sciences studying life and its various phenomena, including human life, such as medicine and theoretical and applied medical sciences. Biology reveals the biological phenomena and processes occurring in living organisms. It holds significant importance among biological sciences in fields such as public health, agriculture, food industries, laboratory analysis, and environmental treatments. This expansion in the development of biology is attributed to the diversity and advancement of modern technologies utilized, thus earning it a prestigious status in scientific studies in colleges and universities worldwide.
